Two of his younger brothers, Wilhelm and Eduard, were also influential scientists, specializing in physics and anatomy respectively. In later life, he continued working with his brother Eduard on nerve stimulation and muscle suppression, leading to inhibitory responses as a popular therapy. Weber described the just-noticeable difference (jnd) as the ratio of difference to magnitude, not the absolute difference. He found that for weights, the finest discrimination required an 8–10% difference. Weber also developed the two-point threshold technique to map touch acuity, and described Weber's illusion regarding the perception of points on sensitive versus insensitive areas.
